Wake for Warriors

Wake for Warriors is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit founded in 2012 by veterans to serve veterans. Our focus is, and always will be, on connecting with our riders. We share in their struggles and celebrate victories on and off the water. WFW is guided by combat veterans that understand the value of camaraderie. Through 4 day events across the country, riders are able to enjoy lake life while taking on the challenge of learning to wakeboard and wakesurf. Each morning starts out on the water for a full day of riding followed by relaxed evenings full of laughs and new friends. No experience required. Our drivers and coaches focus on fun and building skill as you progress. We have the best boats and gear you can get and we do it in a relaxed, no pressure environment. We pay for food, travel, lodging and equipment.

Further details can be found on the Wake for Warriors website.

Creative Arts Corner:

Man in the Mirror by Paul G.

They walked down a beautiful trail on a Sunday afternoon on their way to the same destination. Neither really knew his destination, but each knew or at least thought he knew what they both were looking for. They both would recognize when they’ve arrived at their destination. One was a few steps ahead of the other, and every once in a while one would pass the other. They would just continue along their journey until after a while, the two were traveling at the same exact rate. The two were even in step the way service-members tend to be. Their arms would swing at the same pace. They were so synchronized that they looked at each other at the same time. When they did, they made eye contact. It was an awkward 20 seconds of uninterrupted eye contact. They just stared at each other, not missing a beat until he realized he had to watch his step. That’s when he looked down and realized he was walking next to his mirror.

Artist bio: Paul G. is a medically retired US Army Ranger.  He and his family reside in Virginia.

Creative Arts Therapist: Several of our warriors have been participating in creative arts sessions online once a week with writing instructor Anne Alper. Sessions focus on guided writing exercises with theme prompts to develop writing skills and structured writing practice.

Ms. Alper has a Masters in Education and Counseling, is certified through the Amherst Writers and Artist Foundation, and completed a 2 year program in California for expressive arts.
