Professional Development Opportunities

June 2020

NCC NEWS AND UPDATES

In May, NCC partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project to offer a series of Alternative Therapy sessions to our warriors and their families. These sessions were recorded and are available on our NCC website under Education and Resources. Please check out our brief video to get a glimpse into the Alt Therapy Expo!

We encourage Community Support Specialists to share these sessions with their warriors and perhaps participate together during a CSS session. We plan to offer more virtual opportunities throughout the next few months including sessions led by warriors and CSS to teach new skills, facilitate meetup groups, or host an open mic session. If a CSS is interested in planning and facilitating a session with a warrior, please reach out to your case manager to discuss opportunities.

NCC is committed to developing new ways to reach and support our providers, warriors and families during these changing times. We encourage you to reach out to us and let us know how we can best support you and your staff.

We look forward to sharing resources and trainings with you each month. If you have a resource that may be beneficial to all of our agencies, please contact Jenny Abramson at Jabramson@neurocc.com.

TBI / Veteran Related Trainings

**Please note these trainings are aimed at increasing your professional development, but are not required by NCC. Therefore, the registration fee and time spent participating in these external webinars may not be billed to NCC.

It was developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2020. The app connects you to resources to help you cope with stress, stay healthy, stay connected, and navigate parenting, caregiving, and working at home while social distancing or sheltering in place. COVID Coach is not meant to replace professional care related to COVID-19 or mental health conditions.

Creative Arts Corner:

Poems by Charlie B.

Losing our way without poetry
Without poetry we lose our way
We forget how to think, how to say
We lose our notion of expression
The strength for depression
We need that pencil and paper
To gather our souls and pinpoint goals
Just think of it as dot, dot, dot
My mind has strength.
I got, got, got

Power of the word
Words have power to heal and the power to chill
They comfort the mind with what’s kind
And express how to respect and recollect
But most of all, it puts everything in retrospect
That’s why I share a tone that keeps you from being alone
Because it’s the love that lasts
Although it takes a past
To put melody in your ears
And healing in your years
