Professional Development Opportunities

July 2022

In June, our NCC team met with our Wounded Warrior Project colleagues for several days for our first in person huddle in several years. This was a great opportunity for team building and planning how to best support our warriors in the Independence Program in the years ahead. We greatly value your agency’s role in supporting our warriors and families and look forward to continuing our partnership with WWP and each of you!

Creative Arts Corner:

She Knew She Had Something by Robin Y.

She knew she had something because every time she walked into a room, all eyes were on her.

She knew she had something because every time she smiled, she would light up the room.

She knew she had something because people cared about her.

She knew she had something because she cared about those same people.

She knew she had something when she walked among the streets to feed the homeless and was protected.

She knew she had something when she gave her last and was continually blessed with more.

She knew she had something when she gave until she felt there was no more to give and God gave her the strength to continue.

She knew she had something when she felt she was no longer worthy but found out how much she was honored and loved.

She knew she had something because God chose her to do his work here on Earth.

She knew she had something the moment she realized she was Mother Earth.

Artist bio: My name is Robin Lynn Young. I’m married and I have four Adult children, ages 22, 23, 28, and 29.  My job in the military was a nurse. I served 24 years in the United States Army including 12 years in the Army Reserves. I always loved helping others even as a little girl.  I loved being a nurse so much. As an adult I received awards for “Star Performance in Patient Care” and “Nurse of the Year.” I have been in the Independence program for 5 years.

Creative Arts Therapist: Several of our warriors have been participating in creative arts sessions online once a week with writing instructor Anne Alper. Sessions focus on guided writing exercises with theme prompts to develop writing skills and structured writing practice.
