Professional Development Opportunities

July 2021

NCC NEWS AND UPDATES

Summer is in full swing and busy as ever at NCC! Even as the outside world begins to open up, we are continuing to offer new opportunities to our warriors and families through our Virtual Independence Program, Operation RISE for Caregivers, Expressive Writing Programs, and Affinity caregiver groups. We have found that these virtual programs are an ideal fit for some warriors and family support members who have difficulty accessing in-person events due to location, medical conditions, anxiety and other mental health issues. We are grateful for all of the support from our Community Support Specialists who have helped make our virtual programs a success!

If you have any questions, reach out to your case manager or contact Jenny at Jabramson@neurocc.com

Psych Armor Series: Pandemic Stress First Aid / Mantram Webinar Series

PsychArmor recognizes the commitment and contributions of our military caregivers who support our service members, veterans, and their families every single day. We also understand the challenges faced by those serving and supporting our military caregivers and their families. PsychArmor is proud to present the Mantram Repetition webinar series, sponsored by the USAA, which aims to provide extra support to Healthcare Providers and peers who support military caregivers as they face additional challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the stressors healthcare providers and peers of military caregivers face on a daily basis. Mantram Repetition is an evidence-based stress management tool used to calm and focus the mind, be present, and live with intention.

More information about the full Mantram Webinar Series can be found here: https://psycharmor.org/mantram-webinar-pandemic-stress/

Creative Arts Corner:

Lost and Found by Hector P.

Most people, if not all to some degree, spend their lives trying to find their place in life, a place to fit in society, a place to fit within themselves. They look ahead for something, the thing that defines them, not knowing that they already found themselves in their everyday life.

Artist bio: I am Hector Perez, born in Puerto Rico. I am a U.S. Army retired Military Police Officer. I love music, movies, plays and any medium that tells a story. I draw inspiration from my life story and experiences. I write so I can make sense of my thoughts and feelings. I enjoy questioning everything, including myself.

Creative Arts Therapist: Several of our warriors have been participating in creative arts sessions online, once a week with writing instructor, Anne Alper. Sessions focus on guided writing exercises with theme prompts to develop writing skills and structured writing practice.

Ms. Alper has a Master’s in Education, and Counseling, is certified through the Amherst writers and Artist Foundation and completed a 2 year program in California for expressive arts.
