A Hui Hou – Until We Meet Again

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a physical distance between loved ones in an effort to maintain safety, but that doesn’t have to impact our health and well-being. There is Hawaiian saying that truly embodies the sentiment felt by many during these unprecedented times.

A hui hou – Until we meet again.

One warrior in particular has embraced that phrase.  Rosemarie is a native Hawaiian, living in San Diego.  Rosemarie had planned to spend time in Hawaii for her mother’s birthday. Her mother has been caring for Rosemarie’s father, who is ill, and was looking forward to the time with her daughter.  Unfortunately, the trip was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Rosemarie has been taking online classes to work as a paid caregiver in her community. She enjoys caring for others and giving back. Though she struggles with depression and anxiety, her determination to contribute to her community has aided her recovery.  Rosemarie has played the ukulele for years but has been challenged by traditional lessons.  Through Neuro Community Care’s virtual music therapy program Rosemarie has excelled and was able to give her mother a wonderful birthday surprise.

This birthday message to her mother is the next best thing to seeing her in person.  This video gives hope and love in a time of uncertainty.  A hui hou Rosemarie… until we meet again!
